有時候，我們可以將副詞子句簡化，以表達更清楚的意思，也讓句子聽起來更自然。

這些被簡化的副詞子句又稱作「修飾性的副詞片語」。我們可以簡化表示時間 (when, while, before, after)、因果關係 (because, since)、對比 (although, though) 以及條件 (if) 的副詞子句；然而，只有在副詞子句和主要子句的主詞相同的時候，才可以進行簡化的動作。

將副詞子句簡化為修飾性的副詞片語的方法為：
1. 移除連接詞；
2. 假如有 be 動詞，則移除副詞子句的主詞和 be 動詞；
3. 假如沒有 be 動詞，則移除副詞子句的主詞，並將動詞改為 -ing 形式（現在分詞）。

例句如下： - While Dad was eating breakfast, he read the newspaper. = Eating breakfast, Dad read the newspaper. （當爸爸吃早餐時，他讀了報紙。） - Because Amy was hit by her brother, she cried loudly. = Hit by her brother, Amy cried loudly. (past participle, passive voice) （因為愛咪被哥哥打，於是她嚎啕大哭。） - Though he stayed up late last night, he still got up early this morning. = Staying up late last night, he still got up early this morning. （雖然他昨天晚上很晚睡，他今天早上還是很早起。）

例句
Finishing her homework, my sister went to bed right away.

做完功課後，我姊立刻就去上床睡覺去了。

Locked out by himself accidentally, Warren called his landlord for help.

因為 Warren 不小心把自己鎖在了門外，他打電話給房東求助。

Unable to afford a new car, we bought a used one.

因為買不起新車，我們買了二手車。
