Gerunds are verbals that refer to nouns that are created by adding "-ing" to the end of verbs. Therefore, within a sentence, where a gerund appears, it can generally be replaced by a pronoun. For example, in this lesson, "using..." in "I've tried using one of those alarm clocks" can be replaced by the pronoun "it", making the sentence: "I've tried it".

「動名詞」是一種動狀詞，它是由動詞原型加上 -ing 演變而來的，扮演著「名詞」的角色。因此動名詞在句中出現的位置，通常都可以「被代名詞取代」。

例如本課提及的 I've tried using one of those alarm clocks，其中 using... 就可以被代名詞 it 取代變為 I've tried it。
