The Past Simple
The Past Simple is used to talk about actions that happened in the past. It does not matter how long the action lasted, and the action could have happened a while ago or a long time ago. In positive forms, for regular verbs, add -ed to the root form of the verb. In negative forms, use "did not + root form of the verb."
He didn't go to bed early last night.

I was in Japan last year.

I met her in Hawaii.
